Transforming Outdoor Play at Birstall Primary Academy, Kirklees, West Yorkshire
Birstall Primary Academy in Kirklees, West Yorkshire has reimagined its outdoor space with the installation of a vibrant new EYFS playground, designed to spark curiosity, movement and imagination from the very first step outside.
At the heart of the transformation is a dynamic jungle climber trekker, inviting young adventurers to climb, balance and explore. Alongside it, the adventure trail 6 U-shaped configuration creates a flowing journey of physical challenges, encouraging coordination, confidence and active play.
The space is brought to life with a combination of bespoke and standard playground markings, turning the ground itself into an interactive canvas. From playful pathways to imaginative zones, these markings encourage children to engage, invent games and learn through movement.
This thoughtfully designed environment transforms outdoor play into a rich, hands-on experience where children can develop physically, socially and creatively in a safe and stimulating setting. Customer Objectives
The Academy set out to transform a simple outdoor area into a vibrant and engaging EYFS play environment. The vision centred on creating a space where children could explore freely while developing key physical, social and creative skills.
To bring this to life, the school introduced a jungle climber trekker and an adventure trail 6 U-shaped layout, forming an exciting pathway of movement and discovery.
