Outdoor Reading Areas for Everyone

Many schools are now using outdoor spaces to create an environment that supports child-led learning and play. Explore our range of storytelling furniture and equipment designed to enhance literacy skills and spark imagination in children. From the child’s storytelling chair to the teacher’s storytelling chair, we offer various options to create engaging outdoor reading areas.

This allows children to control their own learning and explore the world around them outside of the classroom in a safe and fun way. As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the outdoor classroom, children gather around the storyteller’s chair in eager anticipation. Excitement and imagination fill the air, preparing for a literary journey into the unknown.

The storytelling area serves as a gateway to a world where fairy tales blend with reality, nurturing young minds through the captivating power of storytelling. The outdoor reading area beckons children to explore, to learn, and to dream amidst nature’s embrace.

What’s more, we have a wide selection of wooden storytelling playground equipment to suit various styles and budgets!

How to create a storytelling zone

• Start with a small area—you can always add to it later!
• Add to our storytelling circle, which is perfect for group storytelling. It encourages children to sit facing each other, which promotes social interaction and communication.
• Add our storytelling chair, which is a wonderful addition for individual story time. It allows children to curl up and get comfortable while they listen to a story.
• If you have the space, add some trees or bushes around the perimeter of the area to create a natural barrier and further encourage imaginary play.
• You can also add toys or props to the area to help bring the stories to life!
• Finally, make sure to stock the area with plenty of books! To accomplish this, add a small bookshelf or bin filled with age-appropriate books.
• Encourage children to use their imaginations and have fun!
