BRIEF: After working on previous projects, Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School got back in touch with Creative Play in regards to creating a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). Wanting a turf-based surface, they wanted to include a variety of court markings as well as two goal ends. DESIGN: After meeting with the school, we decided on a large 30m x 15m MUGA, with 2m high goal ends either side; this ensured that large groups of pupils could enjoy playing together during both PE lessons and break times in a one-stop sport facility.
We laid our sports-specific green Playturf surface throughout the Multi-Use Games Area and used contrasting colours to create the in-laid markings. White lines were used to create a football court, red lines were used for Basketball whilst yellow markings created a netball court.
Two meter high fencing was used around the perimeter of the MUGA to contain play and help create the outer boundaries of the in-laid court markings. INSTALLATION: As this was such as large-scale project it was essential that we worked closely with the Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School to ensure we caused minimal disruption to their day-to-day running. With the amount of Play Turf involved as well as the multi-coloured inlaid court markings, it was important that the complexity of the project did not hinder the quality of the final installation.
Overall, the final product is very impressive and now Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School has a fantastic new facility that will last for many years to come.
