ARK Blacklands Primary Academy

BRIEF Ark Blacklands Primary Academy got in contact with Creative Play in regards to completely updating their Early Years play area. Wanting to provide a variety of sensory play opportunities, they also wished to include some sort of climbing frame or play tower that would allow their younger pupils to work on their fundamental movement skills.

DESIGN One of the requests of Ark Blacklands was to include a variety of safety surfacing to add extra interest in the play space. We knew we definitely wanted to include purple, yellow and blue Wetpour Safety Surfacing to match the school colours as an extra personal touch. A number caterpillar design was also included in the Wetpour Safety Surfacing to provide a fantastic outdoor learning tool.

A storytelling area was created from various seating and Artificial Grass Safety Surfacing was installed underneath to add to the rustic feel. Items such as our Messy Play Tables were also included to meet Ark Blackland’s sensory play needs.

Finally a challenging, but age-appropriate, three tower Jigsaw was added to encourage risky play and provide fantastic physical play opportunities. Safety Surfacing was laid underneath to ensure all BSEN 1176 / 1177 safety standards were met.

INSTALLATION Overall the project at Ark Blacklands Primary Academy was an exciting one to be a part of. With a combination of play equipment, seating and safety surfacing it was paramount that everyone coordinated their actions and worked well together to ensure a successful outcome.

The final development looks fantastic and is a great testament to all at Creative Play. Well done to all involved!
