Play Ahoy! Our Shipshape Development at Sir Stanley Gray Pub

The Brief

Sir Stanley Gray Pub contacted Creative Play looking to transform a blank concreted area with an old fashioned beach feel, to a play space for children of all ages. They wanted the area to be packed full of play features and activities whilst keeping in line with the surrounding area. As the pub is on a cliff front overlooking the sea, a beach themed playground was perfect.

The Design

To meet the beach theme requirements, we introduced our brand new timber Shipwreck! The Shipwreck comprises of 3 main ship elements; Bow, Stern and Crow’s Nest and has room for multiple children to play at one time; perfect for a pub setting! To ensure we provided play activities for everyone, we incorporated a two tower Jigsaw Play System, two animal spring riders, and a mound tunnel as well as palm trees and a treasure chest to really enhance the nautical theme.

In addition to all of the play equipment, we laid our Wetpour safety surfacing to ensure the play area would not only meet all BSEN1176/1177 safety standards, but to also really provide an extra WOW factor. Within the Wetpour, we included sea, sand and several sea animals designs! Overall the design of this playground is really impressive and is great for promoting imaginative play.

The Installation

This wasn’t a simple installation as we had to crane all equipment and tools to completed the job over the nearby cliff! This wasn’t something we had done before but with close co-ordination with Sir Stanley Gray Pub, the whole transition went smoothly and we were able to proceed with the installation as normal. To have seen the transformation of such a dull area to what it is now an amazing play space, it was such an exciting project to have been a part of!
