Leaders In Greener Playgrounds: Creative Play Wins Bronze Sustainability Award

We’re proud to announce that Creative Play has won the Bronze Award for Sustainability at the 2024 Land, Leisure & Tourism Show – a national event celebrating innovation across the outdoor, hospitality and visitor attraction sectors.

This recognition highlights our ambitious work to rethink how playgrounds are designed, manufactured and installed – with environmental responsibility considered at every stage.

For us, sustainability isn’t a box to tick. It’s a commitment that touches everything from the materials we use to how we power our factory.

The award follows a major year of progress on our environmental goals, including the publication of our first Net Zero Roadmap and the completion of significant upgrades to our energy systems, manufacturing methods, and supply chain.

Factory Reset: Building Sustainability Into The Business

Our Net Zero journey reached a landmark in 2022, when we made the bold decision to relocate from our long-standing premises to a new facility better suited to supporting sustainable growth.

The move gave us the space and flexibility to implement a host of environmental improvements, including:

  • 104 rooftop solar panels, now generating around 50% of our total electricity
  • Motion-sensor lighting, to cut unnecessary power use
  • Water-efficient taps and low-flow toilets, reducing waste at source

This wasn’t just a fresh coat of paint – it was a strategic reset of how we operate as a business.

Net Zero By 2045: A Clear Roadmap

In 2023, we published a full Net Zero Roadmap in partnership with Go Green Experts. Based on a thorough carbon audit, this sets out our plan to reach Net Zero emissions by 2045 – five years ahead of the UK government’s official target.

Key goals include:

  • Achieving 100% sustainable electricity by 2026 (aided by new battery storage)
  • Reducing Scope 3 emissions through smarter supply chain partnerships
  • Cutting waste, water emissions and unnecessary transport wherever possible

This award recognises not only what we’ve done already – but the scale and transparency of our long-term plans.

Smarter Materials, Greener Design

Sustainability also drives the choices we make in our product design and development:

  • We now use Playtec PCR, an 80% recycled, 100% recyclable plastic, across a growing range of components
  • Our playgrounds are built using FSC-certified timber
  • Many of our most popular designs are modular, allowing individual parts to be replaced rather than entire units – reducing waste over time
  • We’ve also invested in CNC machinery like the MD Top XXL to optimise production and reduce timber offcuts

These upgrades have had measurable impact, cutting waste while improving both efficiency and product longevity.

What Sets Us Apart

While some in our industry might take small, incremental steps, we’ve built a business-wide strategy for environmental change.

Our relocation allowed us to think bigger – not just switching to greener materials, but overhauling entire systems. From packaging to power supply, from factory workflow to aftersales support, every part of our business has been reviewed through the lens of sustainability.

We proudly design, manufacture and install entirely in the UK, giving us tighter control over both quality and carbon output.

Great play spaces shouldn’t cost the Earth. Our aim is to build play environments that support healthier communities today – while protecting the planet for the generations who’ll use them tomorrow.

What This Means for Our Customers

Whether you’re a school, parish council, farm attraction or leisure venue, this award win means added reassurance that you’re working with a supplier who shares your values.

This award is a milestone – but not a finish line. We’re continuing to invest in greener technologies, smarter logistics and lower-carbon designs to make play more sustainable for everyone.
