Whimple Parish Council | Whimple, Exeter

Whimple Parish Council has expanded its local play area with a new fitness trail and activity towers, creating a more varied outdoor space for children and families. The installation combines climbing challenges, fitness activities and traditional playground favourites, giving children more opportunities to stay active, build confidence and enjoy outdoor play together.

Whimple Parish Council aim was to expand the existing play area with a wider range of activities, introducing more opportunities for fitness, climbing, imaginative play and social interaction. The new facilities were designed to create an engaging outdoor destination for children of different ages and abilities.

The project focused on creating a varied play environment that combines fitness, adventure and inclusive facilities. The bespoke Oakmere Activity Centre and Jigsaw Tower introduce climbing opportunities and physical challenges, while the fitness trail encourages children to test their balance, coordination and strength as they move between activities.

Alongside these more challenging features, familiar favourites such as swings and a seesaw provide accessible ways to enjoy play, while the spring riders add imaginative fun for younger children. A wheelchair-accessible picnic table also provides a place for families and visitors to sit together, helping make the play area a welcoming community space.

The new facilities provide more opportunities for children to climb, balance, build strength and enjoy imaginative play. With activities ranging from fitness challenges to traditional playground favourites, the expanded play area offers greater variety for local families and visitors.
