St James’ RC Primary School in Orpington, partnered with Creative Play to introduce a Jungle Climber Combi to its outdoor play area. Installed on artificial grass safety surfacing, the new equipment encourages pupils to enjoy active play while developing their strength, balance, coordination and confidence through climbing and exploration.

St James’ RC Primary School wanted to update its outdoor play area by replacing its old playground equipment with a new Jungle Climber Combi. The aim was to provide pupils with fresh climbing challenges that encourage active play, support physical development and help build confidence through outdoor exploration.

Replacing the existing equipment required a suitable alternative for the school’s outdoor space. Creative Play installed the Jungle Climber Combi with artificial grass safety surfacing, creating a dedicated climbing area with a neat, consistent finish that complements the surrounding concrete playground and grass field.

The Jungle Climber Combi gives pupils an engaging way to incorporate movement into their school day. Climbing activities can help develop strength, balance, coordination and spatial awareness, while tackling new challenges can encourage perseverance and confidence. The artificial grass safety surfacing provides a neat, consistent finish to the play area, complementing the equipment and creating a practical outdoor environment for everyday school use.

For schools across Orpington and the wider Bromley area, this project demonstrates how combining climbing equipment with appropriate safety surfacing can support an active outdoor play offer.
