Upgrading Play at Sacred Heart RC Primary School, Battersea
Sacred Heart in Battersea has transformed its playground with the addition of an Alnwick play tower. Inspired by the castle featured in the Harry Potter films, this three-tower structure provides an exciting setting for imaginative role play among primary pupils.
Built from durable timber, the multi-level design encourages active play while supporting coordination, balance, and social interaction. From creative storytelling to physical exploration, the Alnwick tower offers a dynamic space that enriches outdoor learning and adds a real wow factor to the playground.

Project Objectives
The school aimed to revitalise their playground into a safe, engaging, and inspiring space for primary pupils. The addition of the Alnwick play tower introduces a bold, castle-themed centrepiece that encourages imaginative role play and active exploration.
Design Challenges & Solutions
Working within the existing playground layout, the design ensures the multi-level structure fits seamlessly while maintaining safety and accessibility. The layout maximises opportunities for climbing, social play, and creative storytelling, all within a well-organised space.
A Playground Built for Adventure and Development
The completed playground now offers a dynamic environment where pupils can climb, explore, and create their own stories. The Alnwick play tower supports physical development, coordination, and social interaction, transforming the space into an engaging hub for active play and imagination.
