A Bespoke EYFS Playground at Heathfield Primary and Nursery School

Heathfield Primary and Nursery School has enhanced its early years outdoor space with a bespoke playground redevelopment, designed to encourage active play, build confidence and support physical development through exploration.

At the heart of the new play area is a bespoke two tower jigsaw unit, offering a variety of climbing and balancing challenges. Children can explore the stairs, net climber, slide, clatterbridge, log climber and climbing panel with blocks ramp, providing opportunities to develop coordination, strength and confidence as they play.

The equipment brings together a range of physical play opportunities, encouraging children to test their abilities, develop new skills and enjoy active outdoor learning. Finished with green and black wetpour safety surfacing, the new area provides a practical and engaging environment for early years children to explore, play and develop throughout the school day.

Customer Objectives

Heathfield Primary and Nursery School set out to enhance its early years outdoor space as part of an EYFS redevelopment. The aim was to create an engaging environment that encourages active play, builds confidence and supports children’s physical development.

At the heart of the design is a bespoke two tower jigsaw unit, featuring stairs, a net climber, slide, clatterbridge, log climber and climbing panel with blocks ramp. These features provide a variety of opportunities for children to develop their balance, coordination and climbing skills while enjoying outdoor play.

Playground Development Challenges & Solutions

The key challenge was to incorporate a variety of physical play opportunities into one cohesive design suited to early years children. The bespoke two tower jigsaw unit brings together different climbing, balancing and sliding activities, encouraging children to explore the equipment and develop new skills at their own pace.

Green and black wetpour safety surfacing completes the installation, providing a durable, practical surface for everyday use.

The result is an engaging outdoor play area that supports physical development, encourages confidence and provides valuable opportunities for active learning.

Results: Encouraging Active Early Years Play

The completed redevelopment has provided Heathfield Primary and Nursery School with a dedicated early years play area, bringing together a variety of climbing, balancing and movement-based activities in one space. The bespoke two tower jigsaw unit makes the most of the outdoor area, offering children different ways to explore and enjoy the equipment.

The addition of green and black wetpour safety surfacing completes the installation, creating a defined play space for children to enjoy throughout the school day.
